In a perfect world, everything we buy would be amazing and all the claims on the packages would come true for everyone. Obviously, perfect doesn’t exist. But I still have high hopes for the products I buy trusting they perform as they promise to.
Not everything is a winner. I bought a ton of great things last year, but I also bought a few beauty flops. These 2017 releases just didn’t work for me like I wished they would. Oh well. There’s always another new product to try.
OGX x Kandee Johnson Frosted Sugar Cookie Shampoo & Conditioner
I really, really wanted to love this. I love Kandee Johnson and jumped on her Too Faced collab. And when I saw these online, I went out and searched 3 different stores to find them. I was genuinely excited and couldn’t wait to wash my hair the next morning.
The scent is incredible! It smells like a cookie factory and I want to dunk my entire body in this fragrance. I love sweet scents.
The shampoo is fine. It does its job and cleans my hair. But the conditioner is why I dislike this duo. It doesn’t condition or hydrate. It claims to be a “luxurious hydrating blend,” but my hair felt dry and stringy afterward. I used this for 3 washes, and after each wash, I needed to load up on my leave-in conditioner because my hair felt so unhealthy.
To be fair, I have naturally wavy Latina hair that is half-way down my back and frizzes out easily. I need very nourishing conditioners to fight the dryness. So even though I wasn’t a fan, if you have thin, naturally frizz-free hair, this might work better for you.
Blistex Conditioning Lip Serum
No. Cancel. Do not buy. This was the product I disliked most of all. I had high hopes for Blistex Conditioning Lip Serum. I figured with serum in the name, it would be silky and hydrating. I was wrong. At first pump, it looks like a lotion, but upon application, it’s very watery and doesn’t condition well. It leaves a white cast on your lips, which disappears after a few minutes. The serum just sits on top of your lips and doesn’t penetrate beyond the top layer. After only an hour, my lips felt drier than before I applied it.
My lips are generally very dry, and I keep going back to Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask because it deeply moisturizes and locks in that moisture for hours. $26 is not cheap, but it’s worth it to keep my lips comfortable and happy.
Tarte Lifted Sweatproof Mascara
I received a Tarte Lifted Sweatproof Mascara sample in my ipsy bag and was pumped to try it after reading reviews. I only use waterproof mascaras because my allergies cause watery eyes. I live and die by waterproof. So when I saw it was geared toward working out and is sweatproof, I was hopeful that I could use it, too. Unfortunately, this mascara did nothing for me. It weighed down my lashes, which I expected because it’s not a waterproof formula, but it also smeared off with the slightest hint of water, sweat or tears. I wore it a couple times before chucking it into my trash can. I’m glad I got a sample in my ipsy bag. I almost bought the full size version!
Were any of my flops pure gold for you? Let me know!
I really liked the Ogx Kandee set. My hair smells delicious
I really wish I loved it! It smells sooo good.
